Our review

Only recently did we make our first Oak ukulele at Bondi HQ. We love testing out new woods and seeing how they sound & look. It's one of the perks of being an instrument manufacturer. So we made a sample oak uke, fully expecting it to flop. I mean, we'd never heard of anyone making a uke out of oak before!

We could not have been more surprised. We love the sustain of this uke & the tone is very similar to mahogany but just a touch brighter, which matches it's appearance. The appearance of the oak is striking, we absolutely adore it.

This particular model provides a unique bright take on the baritone sound. It features a radiant oak construction with a beautiful matte finish. All up, it's an instrument with a personality and an absolute pleasure to hear someone play.

The Bondi Tiger Oak Baritone

Hanging around the ukulele world, one learns quickly that everyone raves about Koa or Acacia or Mango or other exotic woods, preaching, "You have to have a uke made of one of these woods in order to get that true sound." And I've always reckoned this mindset to backpackers. If you're not wearing a North Face jacket... well, you're just not one of the gang. So, admittedly I was a bit skeptical about the Bondi Tiger Oak baritone. Just a bit. I mean, who would make a uke out of Tiger Oak?
But, confession time... wow, was I wrong. Bondi nailed it. I own a Pono MGB, a truly well-crafted and beautiful instrument, but the Bondi Tiger Oak baritone I picked up from UkulelMate is just as soulful, resonate, well-built, and absorbing to play as my Pono... if not more so. The sustain on this ukulele just keeps going and going and going. And the tones are clear and well-balanced. It's simply pure joy to play and a barrel of fun.
So, if you're on the hunt for a quality baritone, my advice is don't listen to the purist snobs. Give an underrated... underappreciated wood a try. You won't be disappointed.

A Wonderful Purchase

Everything about this delivery was spot on. The ukulele itself has a bright and pleasant tone. It is nicely finished and its bindings are beautiful. Its tone is not quite as round as the cheap Mahalo that it replaces but it is unlikely it will fail like the simple glue that held the Mahalo together. I am delighted with my purchase.

Great service.

Due to a fault with the LH Bondi Tiger Oak, my order was substituted with a Kala Zirikote Baritone KA-ZCT-B.
A lovely looking uke, that sounds great (to my ageing ears).
Service was more than satisfactory.

All ukuleles under $1000 are made in China. There are a handful of instruments made in the USA/Australia but they come with a hefty price tag and aren't always worth the price. Often the more affordable instruments are just as good, if not better. At ukulelemate, we have tested thousands of instruments and found the sweetspot where quality meets value.

Yes you can! We have the best returns policy in the Australian music industry. No matter what you buy from us, we will take it back within 60 days and give you a full refund for the original purchase. What's even better - we pay for the return shipping. It's simple and easy.

We offer a lifetime warranty on all products. You won't find this anywhere else in the world, most music stores offer 12 months, maybe 24 months if you are lucky. We sell products that are high quality and will last. We stand behind them with a lifetime warranty.

Each ukulele that leaves our warehouse will undergo a strict QC and setup process by our experienced staff. The setup process if fairly similar for all instruments but we will spend more time on the more expensive models. The budget models will receive all of the crucial checks but we won't spends as much time on things such as fretboard lemon oil.

We package the ukes extremely well with our own thick custom made boxes. Each year we ship thousands of ukuleles all across Australia and the world. We guarantee you will receive your uke in 100% perfect condition.

All orders before 4pm are dispatched same day. We choose the fastest courier based on your postcode. Over 80% of our orders arrive in 1-2 days. If you live in a rural area, it will take a couple of extra days, but we will make sure it's dispatched fast and with the best courier possible.
