Closed Back Banjolele in Tenor

Joel's review

Ohana’s Banjolele is a remarkable hybrid instrument that combines the plucky, twangy tone of the banjo with the bright, sunny tuning and scale length of the ukulele. It sounds ambitious, but it works.

This particular model is discontinued on our site due to low stock, so we thought we would showcase it here instead. The body and neck are made of luxurious Solid Maple with a satin sunburst finish. The drumhead is a Remo WeatherKing synthetic skin. The tuning pegs and hardware are metal. Of note is the closed back which tends to project the sound forward unlike open back models.

If you are after a banjolele, you will be in good hands with Ohana. The instrument is punchy, plucky, and loud. It’ll be hard to find something as good at this price point.

This unique one of a kind Tenor Ukulele was made from a 1910 Wertheim piano and made by our friend from Weird Things With Strings...

It has a bit of heft to it and believe me it certainly has a unique sound because of it. The unique pick guard really gives it an extra bit of flare too. This uke you really just have to have in your hands to understand the depth of it. Of course it still has standard tuning and all the other features you come to expect from a normal ukulele.

Please reach out if you have any questions, this is definitely an interesting instrument.

The Side binding is from bass piano strings. The tuning on this is EADG.  We have taken extensive pictures of the bass ukulele but please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.  PS. Joel's review

The creation of Kumalae ukuleles was an art form that required exceptional skill and precision. Artisans with deep expertise meticulously hand-carved the wood, embedding intricate patterns and designs inspired by Hawaiian nature, such as floral motifs and ocean waves. These detailed carvings were made possible through the careful use of various specialized tools, which sculpted the wood into three-dimensional reliefs on the ukulele's surface.

Primarily crafted from the esteemed Hawaiian koa wood, known for its beautiful grain and warm tonal qualities, these ukuleles not only displayed visual artistry but also produced rich, resonant sounds. The carvings enhanced the aesthetic appeal, lending each instrument a distinct elegance.

Kumalae ukuleles are revered for their aesthetic and acoustic excellence, standing out as vintage treasures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their rarity and historical significance make them highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, embodying a crucial part of the legacy and historical narrative of the Kumalae brand.

What Makes It Unique

Open Back Banjolele in Tenor

Joel's review

Ohana’s Banjolele is a remarkable hybrid instrument that combines the plucky, twangy tone of the banjo with the bright, sunny tuning and scale length of the ukulele. It sounds ambitious, but it works.

This particular model is discontinued on our site due to low stock, so we thought we would showcase it here instead. The body and neck are made of luxurious Solid Maple with a satin sunburst finish. The drumhead is a Remo WeatherKing synthetic skin. The tuning pegs and hardware are metal. Note that this unit is open back unlike the typical Ohana TK-120BUC model.

If you are after a banjolele, you will be in good hands with Ohana. The instrument is punchy, plucky, and loud. It’ll be hard to find something as good at this price point.
