Our review

Only recently did we make our first Oak ukulele at Bondi HQ. We love testing out new woods and seeing how they sound & look. It's one of the perks of being an instrument manufacturer. So we made a sample oak uke, fully expecting it to flop. I mean, we'd never heard of anyone making a uke out of oak before!

We could not have been more surprised. We love the sustain of this uke & the tone is very similar to mahogany but just a touch brighter, which matches it's appearance. The appearance of the oak is striking, we absolutely adore it.

This particular model provides a unique bright take on the baritone sound. It features a radiant oak construction with a beautiful matte finish. All up, it's an instrument with a personality and an absolute pleasure to hear someone play.

Mind blowing resonance

I am so loving my new solid Tiger Oak Baritone that I haven’t touched my other instruments for weeks.
I have been absolutely mesmerised by the resonance of this Uke. It looks pretty and is an amazing instrument with value for money . I highly recommend it.

A Great Ukulele that sounds like a Guitar

A great Uke which has more space for easier chord changes and sounds just like a guitar. Awesome!

Bondi Uke exceeds all expectations again

I can't believe it took me this long to discover Bondi ukes, despite being an Australian who's played the ukulele for almost 20 years.
I'd found myself in a bit of financial trouble (cost of living!) so had to sell off several high-end ukuleles, including a Kamaka tuned to baritone tuning (DGBE).
However, since I didn't want to be down on my ukulele count, my plan was to purchase less expensive alternatives to the ukuleles I sold so I can keep working on my music while also saving money.

After much research, the ukulele I chose is this Bondi Tiger Oak baritone, which at its listed price (plus a discount code I earned from a previous purchase) is an absolute bargain for the quality, setup and amazing visuals it offers. It was shipped to me within a day (Express) in Melbourne and I do not regret choosing this instrument one bit.

I can very easily say that sounds fantastic (plenty of clarity and sustain) and looks amazing (the Tiger Oak stripes really pop) - but the thing that impresses me most about Bondi ukes I've tried so far (this baritone and a Bondi Anthem steel string electric) is their fit, finish and setup. It's hard to find ukuleles that come straight from the store with a good setup. Only the most reputable ukulele merchants offer the setup service free of charge, and clearly all Bondi ukuleles come with that extra attention to ensure it is delightfully playable for experts and beginners alike.

Also the goodies package it comes with represents phenomenal value and useful for people of all skill levels - in particular the tuner, strap, ukulele chord chart and the guidebook (which I was skeptical about at first but turned out to be a very entertaining read).

I actually wanted to purchase the electric version, but it was out of stock so I purchased the regular version + hardcase.
I installed my own passive undersaddle pickup, which now mean the uke sounds great both acoustically and plugged in.
I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun owning this great instrument and hope Ukulele Mate and Bondi continue to bring high quality ukulele fun to many customers, both down under and around the globe.

FAQ

All ukuleles under $1000 are made in China. There are a handful of instruments made in the USA/Australia but they come with a hefty price tag and aren't always worth the price. Often the more affordable instruments are just as good, if not better. At ukulelemate, we have tested thousands of instruments and found the sweetspot where quality meets value.

Yes you can! We have the best returns policy in the Australian music industry. No matter what you buy from us, we will take it back within 60 days and give you a full refund for the original purchase. What's even better - we pay for the return shipping. It's simple and easy.

We offer a lifetime warranty on all products. You won't find this anywhere else in the world, most music stores offer 12 months, maybe 24 months if you are lucky. We sell products that are high quality and will last. We stand behind them with a lifetime warranty.

Each ukulele that leaves our warehouse will undergo a strict QC and setup process by our experienced staff. The setup process if fairly similar for all instruments but we will spend more time on the more expensive models. The budget models will receive all of the crucial checks but we won't spends as much time on things such as fretboard lemon oil.

We package the ukes extremely well with our own thick custom made boxes. Each year we ship thousands of ukuleles all across Australia and the world. We guarantee you will receive your uke in 100% perfect condition.
