Spalted Maple is a beautiful wood with a very interesting grain pattern. Maple is generally brighter than other common woods used in ukuleles, such as Koa and Mahogany. That makes the Spalted Maple ukuleles naturally bright and lively, with good projection that pops in mixes.
The Bondi Spalted Maple series ukuleles uses this stunning tone wood for the top, back, and sides of the ukuleles. A natural wood binding is used to accentuate the grain.
The Rosewood fretboard sits on a solid mahogany neck and is capped with rosewood binding, high ratio chrome plated tuners and a bone nut to keep your uke perfectly in tune. The Spalted Maple series is available in Soprano, Concert, and Tenor sizes.
Like all Bondi ukes this comes with a durable travel bag and a bunch of accessories to get you playing as soon as you unbox it!

Had my new ukulele for a little over a week now and its just amazing on so many levels!! The timber is just beautiful ( the pictures dont really do it justice) as the back has an almost "tiger flame" shimmer to it. The nature of the spalted timber means that each ukulele has a different appearance ... I really appreciate that.
The instrument arrived perfectly set up and it took seconds to get it in tune. This attention to detail is why this is my second purchase from Ukulelemate ..... and certainly wont be my last! The action is spot on and the flurocarbon strings give a great clarity and projection.
The headstock tuners are smooth and reliable ..... probably the best I have come across and the ukulele is excellent resonance!
My other Bondi uke is the Ripple Koa tenor and this is also amazing! I do notice the difference is sound from the koa to the spalted maple ..... but I guess I would have to say these are both my favourites..... just to good in their own way to separate!
Excellent service from Ukulelemate! A query regarding the free extras was handled really promptly. The whole package arrived in days and was very well packed!! As I type this I have a number of ukulele friends "fawning" over it!!!
Probably my only disappointment was the quality of the gigbag. The Koa Tenor came in a bag with 15mm padding, velvety lining and good straps. The bag with the new Spalted Maple uke had none of those things.
What more can I say?? I am in love with my beautiful new ukelele!!! The sound is so warm and rich, even for a beginner like me, it feels so smooth and soft and it is just so pretty and perfect 🥰 💞 😍
Ukelelemate service has been perfect as well 110%, both prior to me ordering and after as well. They could not have been more helpful. Ginger (which is her name😊) arrived to her new home really quickly. We are travelling Australia in a caravan, and we do often have problems with online ordering...not this time!!! She sits next to me while we are parked up and reclines in her amazing case, well supported while we are travelling.
I would not hesitate in recommending a Bondi Ukelele from Ukelelemate and cannot speak highly enough of their personal service. Thank you so much, especially to John and Joel 🙏🙏🙏
PS I am unable to post a picture...where do I do that?
Oh, now I see 🤣🤣🤣
I am thrilled with my tenor Spalted Maple ukulele! It is not only stunningly beautiful but is also lovely to play. I replaced the standard strings ( which I was not fussed with) with a set of low G Sugar Aquilas and I love the deep resonant tone. I am awaiting a set of fluorocarbons in the mail and am hoping for even more improvement in the sustain and tone.
I initially purchased a cheaper ukulele but found I quickly became addicted and decided to upgrade to the spalted maple. John from Ukulele Mate could not have been more accommodating! He sent me photos of the items in stock so I could choose the one with the grain I preferred.
The exchange process was quick and painless. In less than a week, I had my stunning new ukulele.
I now have a serious case of UAS (ukulele acquisition syndrome 😜) so I'm not sure how long I can resist before buying from Ukulele Mate again!
Not only was it Stunningly beautifully made it Sounds so awesome .I really enjoy playing it, thank you for this fine Ukulele .cheers
This is my second uke from Ukulelemate and the whole process has been fantastic. I couldn't have asked for better service and i am already planning my next instrument.
Love my Bondi Spalted Maple Ukulele. Not only a beautiful looking instrument but sounds fantastic and is a absolute joy to play. I was given a number pictures of Ukes to choose from and it was really difficult. Within a few days it turned up delivered in no time in the hard case I requested. Woo hoo!
All ukuleles under $1000 are made in China. There are a handful of instruments made in the USA/Australia but they come with a hefty price tag and aren't always worth the price. Often the more affordable instruments are just as good, if not better. At ukulelemate, we have tested thousands of instruments and found the sweetspot where quality meets value.
