Our review

The Koa Bird US5K sits at the top of aNueNue's Hawaiian Koa hierarchy - built entirely from hand-selected 5A grade Koa, the same wood family as the 1K and 3K Bird series but a noticeably denser, more figured cut. aNueNue developed the Bird series with Japanese luthier Mitsuta Morihiko, whose Mount Fuji-voiced X-bracing was designed to unlock the extra density and complexity that top-grade Koa offers. Top, back and sides are all solid 5A Hawaiian Koa, paired with an African mahogany neck and an ebony fretboard and bridge inlaid with abalone heart dot markers. The soundhole is ringed in a spalted maple and abalone heart rosette, the body is bound in flame maple, and the nut and saddle are buffalo bone. aNueNue's basic ebony headplate carries an abalone heart logo, and Gotoh UPT geared tuners (1:4) keep it precisely in tune. 5A Koa's extra density gives the US5K clear overtones, warm mids and deep lows with long sustain in a compact, classic soprano voice. It ships in aNueNue's Blue Hardshell Case.
