Flame Maple is a type of figured Maple that features unique waves or ripples in its grain. Appearance-wise, it is pretty similar to an Oak, but with the brightness of a Spruce. In regard to sound, Maple is most comparable to Cedar in that it is woody, sweet, and rich. A very complex tonal makeup, strong in the treble and midtones. It is more commonly used for bindings, rosettes, and inlays, but definitely holds its own as a top and body wood.
